Choosing a subject

Your first splat should be as simple as possible: ideally an everyday object that you are very fond of. Scanning an entire room or a whole building is a bit too ambitious for a first attempt. Unless, of course, you already have video footage on hand, such as old drone recordings. I chose my teapot, which my girlfriend and I bought on vacation.

Capturing

To capture Gaussian Splats, many images from different viewing angles are needed. This can essentially be done with any camera, but some cameras are better suited than others. In my experience, it is easier later on to record a video instead of taking many individual photos.

Gaussian Splats are a method for rendering 3D scenes photorealistically on as many devices as possible.
